AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR STATE AND LOCAL HISTORY

ANNOUNCES 1996 AWARD WINNERS

NASHVILLE, TN -- The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) proudly announces winners of its 52nd Annual Awards Program, the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of local, state and regional history.  Awards for 1996 represent 117 organizations and individuals, 47 states and one Canadian province.  The majority of awards honor excellence in local or state history.  Award winners will be celebrated at a special banquet during the 1996 AASLH Annual Meeting in Nashville, September 12.

The awards program was initiated in 1945 to establish and encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation and interpretation of state, provincial and local history throughout North America.  AASLH firmly believes that by publicly recognizing these achievements, AASLH will inspire others to give extra care, thought and effort to their own projects.  For more information about the awards program, contact AASLH at 615.255.2971.

The American Association for State and Local history is a not-for-profit professional organization of individuals and institutions working to preserve and promote history.  From its headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, AASLH works to advance knowledge, understanding and appreciation of local history in the United States and Canada.  AASLH publishes books, technical publications, a bimonthly magazine, and monthly newsletter; sponsors regional and national training workshops and an annual meeting.
